This history of the R.E. Lee Camp, Confederate Veterans, Alexandria, Virginia was published by the Mary Custis Lee -- 17th Virginia Regiment Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1973. It includes a list of officers, a roster of members, and meeting minutes. The book also lists Memorial Day speakers and notes the burial places of Confederate veterans.

Former members of the 17th Virginia Regiment met in Alexandria on June 30, 1884 to establish the "17th Virginia Infantry Association of Alexandria, Virginia." A week later, they organized the "R.E. Lee Camp, Confederate Veterans, Alexandria, Virginia." Founding members included General Montgomery Dent Corse, Captain Philip Beverly Hooe, Private Edgar Warfield, Private George Wise, and others. In subsequent years, individuals elected to honorary membership included Confederate President Jefferson Davis and General Jubal Early.
