Robert E. Lee Letter, February 19, 1862
This letter was a gift from William F. Smith to the Special Collections Branch.
My dear Sir
I sympathize very
sincerely in your situation and accordingly,
regret the condtion in which you
are placed. I have no situation
near me diserable (sic) to you not occupied.
I have therefore written to Col Myers
requesting his aid. He has constant
need of assistants in the [illegible] Dept
where your duties would not only be
more to your tastes but also more
nearly allied to your former pursuits
I enclose the letter, which if you
think fit you can seal & present.
Wishing you every success
I am very truly yours.
RE Lee
